2025 Medically Speaking Series Kicks Off with “Fit For Life”
The Self Regional Healthcare Foundation launched its 2025 Medically Speaking Series with a successful first program, Fit For Life, hosted by Lander University in partnership with the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce.

The event featured an engaging panel with Dr. Michael Maughon, Dr. Katherine Johnson, and Mr. Stephen Shenal, who discussed how orthopaedics and overall health overlap and shared practical tips for maintaining mobility and strength at every stage of life. Guests enjoyed learning how small, consistent habits—like stretching, activity, and nutrition—can make a big difference in long-term joint and bone health.
The evening concluded with a reception offering food and drinks, giving attendees the opportunity to connect directly with the presenters in a relaxed, conversational setting.
“This annual series is all about bringing our physicians and community together to talk openly about health topics that matter,” said Jessica Garcia, Development Officer, Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. “Our first session set the tone for what we hope will be a year of education, connection, and community wellness.”
The Medically Speaking Series is part of the Foundation’s Business and Industry Committee initiatives, aimed at strengthening community partnerships and expanding access to valuable health information.
The next program in the series, Let’s Talk Feet: Answers from Foot and Ankle Surgeons, will take place Tuesday, October 14 at Lander University at 5:30 p.m. and is free and open to all students, hospital staff, and community members.
